In technical terms, the V MAX SHO is a masterpiece of engineering craftsmanship. In order to achieve low weight with high performance, our engineers came up with a single overhead camshaft format, with four large valves per cylinder and a special long-track intake manifold.

SOHC design with four valves per cylinder
To keep weight down and efficiency up, the V MAX SHO 90hp features an unusual internal design – a single overhead camshaft with four valves per cylinder. This set-up means less mass in the cylinder head and reduced overall engine weight. The four valves per cylinder format also helps deliver highly efficient combustion which, in turn, increases power, torque and economy.
Tuned long-track induction system
The long-track intake manifold is another special feature of the V MAX SHO – specially designed to boost out-of-the-hole performance as well as torque, acceleration and top speed.
High-power 35 Amp alternator
We want to make sure that you never lack power for starting, battery charging or running accessories when you’re out on the water, which is why we equip the V MAX SHO 90hp with a three-phase alternator. With its 35 Amp capacity, it even has the power to charge your batteries at trolling speed. That’s called peace of mind – and you can expect it when you own a Yamaha.

Variable Trolling RPM (option)
Trolling speed adjustment from 550-1,000 RPM in 50 RPM increments. Ideal for fishing or when navigating waterways, marinas or speed limit areas. Trolling speed can be set to 200 RPM below idle speed.

This dedicated range of propellers has been developed to complement the wide-ranging Yamaha outboards family and to help you fine-tune the engine/boat performance to fit your personal preferences. Many propellers within the range feature Yamaha’s exclusive Shift Dampener System (SDS®), which considerably reduces the normal noise and brings smoother, quieter shifting.
Compatibility with a wide range of gauges
The very latest technology is incorporated in our models, so the V MAX SHO 90hp is compatible with a very wide range of Yamaha’s exclusive digital control systems and gauges, from 6Y8 up to the newest CL5 gauges and displays. So when it comes to having clear, accurate engine data and performance information to help you run the boat, Yamaha systems are unmatched.
